As we move through a busy and exciting term, it’s wonderful to see our students shining both inside and outside the classroom. From hands-on learning in the kitchen to inspiring performances on stage, and meaningful opportunities for student voice and community engagement, there’s so much to celebrate together. I am proud to share some highlights of the last few weeks along with some exciting upcoming events. We are grateful for the ongoing support of our families and look forward to sharing these moments that bring our school community closer every day.
Learning focus
On Thursday, I had the pleasure of visiting the hall and stepping into the kitchen space, where our Year 4 students were fully immersed in a hands-on learning experience, cooking stir fry as part of their SAKG program. It was fantastic to see students so engaged, developing not only practical life skills but also teamwork, following instructions, and learning about nutrition. A big thank you our staff for bringing this valuable learning to life in such an authentic way.
Then on Friday, I had the opportunity to read a persuasive text written by a Year 6 student advocating for more handball space for their cohort. The writing was impressive. Not only demonstrating strong use of persuasive devices, but also offering a clear, solution-focused argument. What stood out most was how this student applied their learning to a real-world context with purpose and confidence. As a direct result, the undercover handball courts on the oval beside the SAKG will now be available for Year 6 students—a genuine example of student voice in action and the power of persuasive writing.
Eisteddfod has begun!
I had the pleasure of attending the Eisteddfod and watching our Senior Strings group perform, beautifully led by Ms Swindley. The joy on our students' and families’ faces when they were announced as second place was a truly special moment. We are also looking forward to hearing how our band and beginner strings perform over the next few weeks. Performing in front of an audience is never easy, and we are incredibly proud of the dedication and hard work our students have been putting into their practice.
Premier Crisafulli Visits Our School
On Tuesday, we had the pleasure of welcoming the Honourable Premier Crisafulli, State Member for Broadwater, to Coombabah. His visit was a great opportunity to discuss ways he can further support our school and contribute to its continued success.
Premier Crisafulli expressed genuine appreciation for the positive developments taking place at our school and spoke highly of our strong sense of community. We are thankful for his ongoing commitment over the years and look forward to strengthening our partnership to create the best possible outcomes for our students and families.
Dive into reading with us from August 13 to 22! Students will explore an ocean of books, choose their favourites, and bring home wish lists to share with you. Book sales will be open Monday to Friday, before school, at second break, and after school — a perfect chance to find affordable books for every reading level.
Don’t forget to join our Book Parade on Tuesday, August 19 at 9:00 am, where students dress as their favourite book characters for a fun celebration.
If you are able to help by buying a book, it’s greatly appreciated — every purchase supports our school library and sparks a lifelong love of reading!
We can’t wait to see you there!
School musical
The musical will be held in Week 9 on Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th September. Our cast and dedicated staff have been working hard, madly rehearsing to bring you an amazing show! What I love most about this musical is that it includes all of our students, showcasing everyone’s talents. Tickets will be available from Week 7 — we can’t wait to see you there!
Wear Orange This Friday – Bullying. No Way! Day
This Friday, we are encouraging all students to wear something orange to show their support for Bullying No Way Day. This could be an orange shirt, ribbon, socks. Anything to help spread the message and to support us in creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive school community.
At school, we are continuing to educate students about bullying. Bullying is ongoing, targeted, and deliberate and it can take many forms, including verbal, physical, or online.
During our daily assemblies, we are helping students understand the difference between one-off incidents and bullying. We are also focusing on building their confidence and skills, so they know what to do, who to talk to, and how to report incidents.
Student-led conferences
We warmly invite all families to attend our upcoming student-led conferences, taking place on Wednesday 27 August between 3:15-4pm in your child’s classroom. No bookings are required. These are a valuable opportunity to connect with your child’s learning journey, celebrate their progress, and hear directly from them about their goals and achievements so far.
Wishing all of our families a wonderful week ahead and look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming events.
