Prep Enrolments

Today, Mrs Flesser and  I had the pleasure of leading a group of future Preps around the school on our first Principals tour for the year. It was lovely to meet some of the future students who will start with us next year.  There will be another Principal’s tour on Wednesday the 13^th of August. We will also be holding our annual Prep Open Morning on Saturday August 2^nd between 10 and 11:30 am. If you have a prep student starting with us next year and you would like to attend either of these events, please register with the office.

Bullying vs Mean or hurtful behaviour

Unfortunately at times, children at school do become involved in conflicts. Whilst uncomfortable and at times distressing, this is part of normal adolescent behaviour and helps them to grow, develop, understand right from wrong and learn how to manage different and difficult situations as they grow older.  It is important to understand what bullying is and what it isn’t. The following information is taken from the Queensland Education Department and comes from the National Bullying- No Way definition of bullying.

As we work towards creating a safe and positive learning environment for our students, it is important to understand the difference between mean behaviour and bullying behaviour.

Mean behaviour refers to actions that are hurtful or unkind, but they are isolated incidents and not intended to cause harm or exert power over someone. Examples of mean behaviour include teasing, excluding someone from a game or conversation, or making a sarcastic comment.

On the other hand, bullying behaviour is intentional and repetitive. It involves a power imbalance where one person or group is exerting power over another, and the behaviour is meant to cause harm. Examples of bullying behaviour include physical aggression, verbal harassment, spreading rumours, and cyberbullying.

It's important to address mean behaviour when it occurs and help students understand how their actions can impact others. However, when it comes to bullying behaviour, it requires more serious attention and intervention. As educators and parents, we must work together to prevent and address both isolated mean behaviour and also bullying behaviour  if it occurs to create a safe and welcoming environment for all of our students.

Uniform Expectations

As the winter season is upon us, I wanted to take a moment to remind everyone of our uniform requirements.  We understand that the recent cold snap has caught some families off guard and as a result some students have been arriving in winter clothes that don’t comply with our uniform policy.

We would like to remind families that students need to wear bottle green jumpers and trackpants as per the uniform guidelines.  Please ensure that these are labelled as students often remove them through the day and often leave them where they take them off.

These can be purchased from the uniform shop or from Kmart or Best n Less if you prefer.

Please do not wear expensive/brand name items of clothing to school to avoid them getting lost or damaged. Recently some students have been arriving in fluffy pyjama pants. These are not allowed and if this happens, students will either need to remove them and put them in their bags, or alternatively, parents will be contacted and asked to collect them.

Before School Expectations

Please remember that students and parents should not be outside of classrooms prior to the bell at 8:45. We have three designated areas for parent and students to go while teachers prepare for the day and hold essential meetings. These areas are:

Before 8:25 –

• All students are to remain in Area A (The tuckshop area)

After 8:25 –

• Students in Year 4 – 6 – Area A
• Prep and Year 1 – Area I (Drop and Go waiting area)
• Year 2 and 3 – Activity Centre.

Of late some parents have been sitting outside the Prep and Year 1 classrooms before school. This can be confusing for our students who see parents and students in this out of bounds area, but are then regularly reminded on our morning assemblies that they are not to be in this area before school.  Your assistance with this is greatly appreciated.
